It’s been a busy week over at the Oriel Myrddin site in Carmarthen, with plenty of progress being made!
This week, we had a catch-up with Gallery Manager Catherine Spring to bring her up to speed on how things are shaping up. It’s great to share the progress and see everything moving in the right direction!
The ground floor toilets in the King Street building are coming along well—the tiling is done, and the toilets have now been plumbed in. Over in the kitchen area, the tiling and grouting of the servery are now finished. The timber work has also been prepped for the new roller and stack shutters.
Another key step this week has been the construction of the landing between the Main Gallery and King Street.
Work on the three new lifts is progressing well. Scaffolding has been erected in the King Street building lift shaft, and the area has been prepped and cleaned, ready for a specialist subcontractor to install the lift. General preparation work to the other lifts is continuing.
The transformation is really starting to take shape, and we’re looking forward to seeing it all come together.

W.B. Griffiths & Son Ltd has commenced improvement works at Ysgol Bro Gwaun Secondary School in Fishguard. The project began in January 2025 and is scheduled for completion in May 2025.
The works primarily focus on the main School Hall and adjoining corridors, involving the removal and replacement of high-level hall windows and lower-level corridor windows. Additional refurbishments include the installation of a new suspended ceiling in the corridor, upgraded electrical work, repairs to steel beams and columns, and the creation of a new School access point. The project also includes associated external works.

To conclude National Apprenticeship Week, Henry Tufnell, MP for Mid and South Pembrokeshire visited the Park House Offices to celebrate with our 29 Apprentices and Professional Trainees and W.B Griffiths & Son Ltd.

This Project will be undertaken as part of an innovative partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council’s Social Housing Scheme. Scheduled to commence in the Summer of 2025, the development will feature 24 sheltered accommodation flats, with completion planned for 2027.
The five-storey building will include 21 one-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom apartments, along with a communal residents’ lounge on each floor. The build will also include 10 on-site parking spaces for residents and the outside space around the flats will be complete with soft landscaping features and trees.
The development replaces the old Motor World site demolished in 2018. The Project will be a huge improvement to the landscape of Charles Street and Milford Haven as a whole. The new development will introduce regeneration for social housing within Milford Haven.

These past few weeks have been a hive of activity at the Oriel Myrddin site in Carmarthen.
In the Main Gallery, additional ductwork & electrical works have been installed. Floor screed has been laid in the office in preparation for new flooring & wall linings.
Work on the hidden lift pit is ongoing, with reinforced steelwork & concrete cast. Second-fix mechanical and electrical work is ongoing throughout the Main Gallery.
Over at King Street, the walls & ceilings to the new visitor WC’s have been skimmed and ceramic tiling completed. The new kitchen & servery has been skimmed to allow the Specialist Kitchen Installers to carry out final dimensional surveys before commencing fabrication.
The feature storage cupboards for the shop and café are in progress.
Internal doors have been hung to the upper floors and the handrails and spindles on the staircase are prepared to receive the final coat of decoration. Painting and decorating are ongoing as each section of the build progresses toward completion.
We’re looking forward to seeing this transformation come to life and can’t wait to welcome everyone into the revitalised gallery space. Stay tuned for more updates as the project moves forward!
